“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show
hospitality to strangers, for by so doing, some people have shown hospitality
to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:1-2
As Catholics, we are called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Church by word and deed. This includes the duty to share our material possessions justly with fellow members of the Body of Christ, as well as with any person in need.
The mission of SJA’s Hands of Christ (HOC) Committee is to support charitable groups and people or families with urgent needs within our parish's geographical boundaries, along with needs inside and outside of our community, including those which the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the Holy See ask us to support. The HOC's second Sunday collection, and distribution of these funds, help us to live this precept of the Church, as well as to provide a positive witness of Christian charity to those who do not yet participate in full communion with the Catholic Church.
Some local organizations to which our committee may allocate funds are the Shakopee Loaves & Fishes meal program, Shakopee Community Assistance (SCA), Shakopee CAP Agency, FISH (Families & Individuals Sharing Hope) Partner Network, St. Mary's Health Clinic, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon - South of the River, Bridging, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, ACCW Madonna Plan, Catholic Charities - Higher Ground Shelter, Guild Crisis & Recovery Center, and more.
A portion of the HOC collection is set aside for parish family emergency needs for those living within our parish's geographical boundaries. There is a HOC application form you may request to fill out.
Additionally, to minimize separate collections throughout the year, funds from the HOC collection go towards those requested by the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis' Center for Mission, such as CRS Rice Bowl, Global Solidarity, Holy Land Collection, Catholic Home Missions, Peter's Pence, World Mission Sunday, Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and Retirement Fund for Religious.
On the second Sunday, during the school year, we also typically host a welcome social with donuts and refreshments. We do not host donut socials during the summer months. We encourage you to take these opportunities to chat with other parishioners and help to grow our Catholic community and Saints Joachim & Anne family.
Thank you for your contributions to this fund. Every dollar goes to help those in need so we may answer God's call to support one another.
The Scott County BTYR chapter is a community effort to offer resources for veterans to honor, serve, and support all military families (active, reserve, retired, deceased) as they deal with deployment or life after their service.
Scott County residents, businesses, and faith communities are invited to join us in our efforts to support and serve our veterans and their families. There are many ways you can lend support to our Beyond the Yellow Ribbon programs. Call or email us today to find out how you can help!
All are invited to join at the monthly meetings!
First Tuesday of every month, at 7 p.m., at the Prior Lake VFW, in the lower level.

A bed seems like a small thing until you give one to a kid who has never had a bed of their own. At SHP, we believe that a bed is a basic need for proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. If a child needs a bed, we want to make sure they get one.
Parishioners are encouraged to get involved.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an all-volunteer organization working in the Twin Cities south metro to build and deliver beds to kids who don’t have a bed of their own.
It’s hard to imagine that there are kids in our own neighborhoods who are sleeping on the floor, but Sleep in Heavenly Peace has blessed over 2,000 kids with new beds, fully outfitted with a mattress, pillow, and bedding.
A good night’s sleep provides physical and emotional security and has proven to improve performance in school, sports, and artistic pursuits while reducing mood swings, behavior problems, and cognitive issues.
A bed seems like a small thing until you give one to a kid who has never had a bed of their own.
So, how can you help make sure no kid is sleeping on the floor in our town?
Join us at one of our build events, where the community comes together to cut, sand, assemble, and finish bed components. This is a great team-building opportunity for your organization or group of family and friends.
Volunteer to help one of the delivery teams. They have the privilege of assembling the beds right in the family home.
Consider sponsoring a bedding drive. Organizations and individuals that donate store-bought and handmade bedding make it possible for us to bless more kids with beds.
Or consider providing the funding needed to purchase lumber and mattresses and support our mission of ending child bedlessness in our community!
You can find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SHPSouthMetro
And let’s make sure NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!

SJA’s HOC Committee meets six times a year (every other month) to allocate the funds received through the two previous second Sunday collections. There are seven lay committee members and each member is asked to serve a three-year term, starting on July 1, and ending on June 30, in alignment with our fiscal year. Committee members must be registered SJA parishioners in good standing and contribute at least $100 annually to the Hands of Christ fund.
Interested in joining the HOC committee? Contact the parish office for more information and when there may be a member spot open.
