15850 Marystown Road
Shakopee, MN 55379
The church is located in the countryside just four miles south of Highway 169 on Marystown Road (County Highway 15).
St. Mary of the Purification, commonly known as our Marystown Church, was founded in 1855 by Benedictine Father George Keller along with 30 families. Nestled among the evergreens in the now sleepy town, this church is rich with history. Thrice destroyed by fire and thrice rebuilt, it stands as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and faith of its founding fathers and mothers. The country charm with 30 acres of ground once housed a mission, a school, the nun's house, and the rectory which still stands today.
The stone church was completed in 1882. The spire was finished in 1883. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1980. In 1991 the stained glass windows were renovated and the new Parish Center was finished and dedicated. The church was later renovated again with a bright new interior and a beautiful stained glass window depicting the crucifixion behind the altar.
Our annual parish festival, JACS JAM, is held on our Marystown church grounds in August on the weekend of the third Sunday.
