Hackers are getting smarter every day. Some target parishes to try and make an email or text look like it was sent by staff. They are getting our information from our website, online bulletin, and online advertisers. GOOD TO KNOW: Priests and staff will NEVER ask you for "a favor", or to send them gift cards, or ask you to urgently respond but be discreet. CHECK THE EMAIL ADDRESS: A good indicator may be the sender's email address. They often create new emails that look very similar to our parish staff emails. Hover over the email or name and you can usually see the email it is coming from. Most often there is something different. SJA staff emails end in @SSJACS.org or @SacsSchools.org. BEST THING TO DO: Delete those emails immediately and send them to your junk! DO NOT RESPOND! Use your best judgment about whether what is being asked is really what and how any staff would contact you regarding the matter. If you have any questions or suspicion, DO NOT RESPOND! CALL THE OFFICE: If you still have questions about the legitimacy of an email or text please call the office at 952-445-1319. |
